About Karmen & The Practice

Karmen is a registered clinical psychologist based in Table View and Parklands on the West Coast of Cape Town. She provides psychotherapy for adolescents, adults, couples and families.

Karmen obtained her Masters degree in Clinical Psychology (cum laude) from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in 2011.  She completed her internship at Weskoppies Psychiatric Hospital in 2012. During her internship she worked in the Adolescent ward, Neurological- as well as Adult Personality Disorder ward. Karmen was involved with the psychometric assessment and treatment of both in-and-out patients of the above-mentioned wards suffering from severe mental illnesses such as major depression, bipolar disorder, addiction, schizophrenia, psychosis, alzheimer’s, dementia, eating disorders and intellectual disabilities.

Following her internship, Karmen went on to complete her Community Service year in Cape Town. Working for the City of Cape Town in the Specialised Health (HIV and TB) team, she worked in four community HIV clinics across the city providing psychological assessment and psychotherapy services to community patients with a wide range of challenges in addition to HIV and/or TB such as major depression, psychosis, gang and domestic violence, sexual abuse, and severe socio-economical problems.

Karmen draws eclectically from various therapeutic approaches to meet the individual needs of the client(s). Karmen also consults with corporate organisations and assist in matters such as profiling, team building, development and conflict resolution.
